Oversight of A.I.: Principles for Regulation (Part 1/4)

DH and AP Reacts
(Music by Karl Casey @ White Bat Audio)

TL;DL

We’re back with another DH and AP Reacts podcast, this time covering the Oversight of A.I.: Principles for Regulation held by the U.S. Senate Committee of the Judiciary on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023.

This is the second of such hearings hosted by Chair Blumenthal. Digital Heresy also covered the first hearing, which you can watch/listen to here:

For this second hearing, the Senate is back, but this time with a new batch of witnesses, including:

  • Dario Amodei (CEO of Anthropic, an OpenAI competitor and owner of the “Claude2” AI Chatbot)

  • Yoshua Bengio (AI Researcher, Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Operations Research at Université de Montréal)

  • Stuart Russell (AI Researcher, Professor of Computer Science The University of California, Berkeley)

This episode is another “live listen and react” featuring commentary from myself, and A Priori. The overall hearing is over 2 hours long, so this is part one of four, and coves the first hour of the hearing through the opening statements from the panel and the witnesses.

The hearing is worth watching/listening to even if you don’t care for our commentary - lots of good information to consider and discuss in your circles. You can watch the original recording in the link above, or on any of a number Youtube videos like the one embedded below:
